[Policy] Working Conference on National Domestic Waste Charging was held on June 9th, 2022

The conference introduced the typical experience and practices in promoting domestic waste charging in the early stages of the work in different places. Beijing, Hunan, Zhejiang Province and Taizhou City shared their experiences on the comprehensive promotion of the reform of domestic waste charging, different charges for domestic waste, metered charges for non-residential kitchen waste and charges for rural domestic waste.

The meeting made deployment of the key work for further steps.

• Promote the charging of domestic waste by categories and steps, continue to deepen the classification of billing and metering charges, and formulate policy measures to suit local conditions.
• Further clarify the relationship between domestic waste charging and financial input, define the scope of their compensation and set reasonable charging standards.
• Accelerate the promotion of residential and rural household waste charging to complement the shortcomings of the policy.

All places are required to take stronger responsibility and further promote domestic waste charging based on the previous work. It is important to formulate a work plan and speed up the construction of a domestic waste charging policy that meets the actual situation in the region. The pilot project should be actively implemented and promoted orderly, summarizing innovative practices and successful approaches in time. It is necessary to strengthen publicity and guidance, and better interpret policies to develop awareness of Polluter Pays and environmental protection in the whole society.
